OUR STORY

There’s a reverence that comes with being a Steeplejack. A belief that an inanimate thing can have life. A desire to work with your hands to make things better than they were before. An expectation that people deserve places to gather that are safe, sound, and welcoming. A feeling that the best things happen at the intersection of art and science. A belief that the old ways should be honored, coupled with a fearlessness that inspires doing things others shy away from. These are the same tenets that led us to start this brewery. And the same convictions we use to guide our work.

Here at Steeplejack, good beer isn’t just about what’s in the glass. It’s about where it’s served and who you share it with. Our town square just happens to be a piece of Portland’s rich history. We are at our best when we create places where people want to explore, discover, exchange ideas, and celebrate.

We provide our community with a unique gathering place where people and conversations connect.

Executive Staff

Anna Buxton

Brewmaster

Anna, originally from Gig Harbor, WA, gained an appreciation for beer from her family and quickly fell in love with the process. The perfect blend of art and science, Anna is particularly passionate about cask-conditioned, Belgian, and traditional pub beers. Besides brewing, Anna loves craft spirits, punk/metal, and to pal around with her dog, Mr. Feeny.

Lawrence Gable

Chef

A Portland native and Chef for over a decade at several local restaurants including Toast, Country Cat Diner, Bird & Bear, Ava Genes, Andina, and Mama Bird. Gable is excited to bring his expertise in regional, local, and seasonal food to Steeplejack. Local farms will be a priority and the menu will change accordingly. Outside of the kitchen, Gable is a diehard Trailblazer fan and avid golfer.

Billy Cook

General Manager

Billy is passionate about craft food and beverage. With 25 plus years in the food and beverage industry in a wide range of venues; from dive bars in Detroit, PGA golf clubs, music venues, and everything in between. With that breadth of experience, he is focused on creating a memorable experience for every customer we serve. When he is not working, you might catch Billy at one of the local disc golf courses, out with his family in their Woodstock community, or around town enjoying a pint with friends.
